Less than a year after her solo debut Château Faux-Coupé (2011), bassist and vocalist Maya Vik — previously known from the bands Montée, Savoy, and Furia — returned with her second solo album. On Bummer Gun, she expands on the sonic universe introduced on her debut, this time with more varied instrumentation and a stronger live feel throughout the songs. The foundation, however, remains the same: insanely funky pop music with clear traces of 1980s-era Prince. The album includes tracks such as “On It (Kapow!)”, “Bummer Gun”, “Be For Me”, and “Sexy Face.”
Several of the songs on Bummer Gun were created in collaboration with American musician Morgan Phalen (Diamond Nights, Justice), who also appears as a duet partner on “Be The One.” Other contributors include the London-based electronic duo Royalty, American hip hop producers Block Beattaz (known for work with G-Side and Stalley / Rick Ross), George Laks, Maya’s regular live musicians Marius Simonsen (drums) and Haakon-Marius Pettersen (keyboards), as well as Oslo Records’ in-house musicians and producers Basmo Family and Chris Lee.
Mindre enn ett år etter solodebuten Château Faux-Coupe (2011) er bassist og vokalist Maya Vik (med bakgrunn i bandene Montée, Savoy og Furia) tilbake med sitt andre soloalbum. På Bummer Gun bygger hun videre på lydbildet vi kjenner fra førsteskiva, denne gang med mer variert instrumentering og større live-følelse på låtene. Grunnstammen er dog den samme: sjukt funky popmusikk med klare aner til Prince anno 80-tallet. Albumet inneholder blant annet "On It (Kapow!)", "Bummer Gun", "Be For Me" og "Sexy Face".
Flere av låtene på Bummer Gun ble laget i samarbeid med amerikanske Morgan Phalen (Diamond Nights, Justice) som også er duettpartner på "Be The One". Andre bidragsytere er den London-baserte elektronikaduoen Royalty, de amerikanske hip hop-produsentene Block Beattaz (G-Side, Stalley/Rick Ross), George Laks (Lenny Kravitz' keyboardist), Mayas faste livemusikere Marius Simonsen (trommer) og Haakon-Marius Pettersen (keyboards), samt Oslo Records' in-house-musikere og -produsenter Basmo Family og Chris Lee.
